Eyecare in Scotland
We've got some good news. Following recent legislation introduced by Scottish parliament, eye test costs are now met by the NHS* to promote regular eye health checks and better wellbeing.
*NHS restrictions apply. Ask in store for more details.
The changes are all about improving the health of the people of Scotland. D&A are proud to be part of this initiative and offer the best possible eyecare to everyone in Scotland.
How will the changes affect me?
The main difference you'll notice is that you won't need to pay for your eye tests. But there are other changes, too:-
Before your eye test begins, D&A branch staff will carry out some basic checks and ask questions about your eye health and your general lifestyle.
If you are over 60 your Optometrist will use eye drops to make it easier to check the back of your eyes. This is a standard and quick procedure. After the test your pupils will be bigger which may mean that your eyes are sensitive to light for a short while, so we would advise you not to drive for a couple of hours afterwards and to bring prescription sunglasses to wear if you have them.
You can book your free eye test today at D&A by contacting your local store in Scotland, or booking online.
Advanced eye health check at Dollond & Aitchison
At D&A your eye health is our priority and the great news is that you are now able to get an advanced eye health check.
We have installed retinal cameras into nearly all of our branches in Scotland. A retinal camera allows us to take a digital photograph of the back of your eye that is then magnified on a computer screen, meaning that we can study your eyes in more detail, increasing the chances of us detecting conditions including Glaucoma, Diabetes, Cataracts and Age Related Macular Degeneration at their earliest stages. The earlier any changes are detected, the better the chances of successful treatment to protect your vision.
The retinal photograph that we take of your eye is instantly available and provides us with a permanent record of the back of your eye. This means that when you have your next eye test we are able to make a direct comparison between the new image and the one taken previously, giving a clear indication of any changes that may have occurred.
The advanced eye health check is free for all under 16's and over 60's.
