Advice for Parents
Is your child ready for contact lenses? If they've expressed an interest, or you're concerned they're not wearing their glasses as often as they should, the answer could be "yes".
Benefits
Whether your child wants them for school or socialising, contact lenses could give them more freedom to get fully involved in sports, dance or drama without the fear of damaging glasses. Contact lenses can also improve your child's confidence if they feel self-conscious about wearing glasses.
Age
There is no age limit on contact lenses and it's perfectly safe for your child to wear them. We advise waiting until you feel they're old enough to clean and look after them properly unsupervised. Most children can wear contact lenses around their early teens with no problems, and we do routinely fit younger children. At D&A, we will take the time to teach them the best methods of handling their lenses, and let them practice until they're confident and competent doing it on their own.
Lens care
Lens care is now incredibly simple!
For daily reusable lenses, modern solutions make cleaning quick and easy. Your child will just need to store their lenses in solution overnight, following the simple instructions we will teach them to keep them clean.
Daily disposables are even more convenient, as your child can just throw them away after use and open a fresh pair each time. This makes them great for occasional wear, and they won't have the hassle of solutions and cases when staying with friends or on holiday.
Your D&A Optician will be happy to discuss the different contact lens types and their potential suitability with you.
