D&A THE OPTICIANS RAISES £141,500 FOR SEEABILITY EYE 2 EYE CAMPAIGN
D&A The Opticians hosted a prestigious ceremony on Wednesday December 10 at Kensington Palace, in recognition of the £141,500 raised for SeeAbility their chosen charity. HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, SeeAbility’s Patron attended to present employees from a selection of D&A’s branches with certificates to commemorate the event.
In 2005 SeeAbility launched the eye 2 eye campaign with the aim of transforming eye health care for people with learning disabilities. Since March 2007, D&A has generously supported SeeAbility’s eye 2 eye Campaign and has significantly exceeded the £100,000 pledged to the charity. D&A’s 400 branches nationwide have participated in events ranging from sponsored cycling to fancy dress competitions and customers have been generous in their support.
D&A’s Chief Executive, Andy Ferguson, who was in attendance at the event, comments: “D&A cares passionately about eye health and puts a lot of effort into fundraising. We are delighted to have been able to exceed the £100,000 pledged to SeeAbility’s eye 2 eye Campaign and to recognise this achievement with many of our employees who have helped make a real difference to the people who need it most.”
Two million people in the UK are affected by sight loss and of these at least two-thirds have another disability. SeeAbility works with blind and partially-sighted people who have additional disabilities. Their specialist approach enables people with multiple disabilities to make choices, enhance their quality of life and achieve their full potential.
David Scott-Ralphs, Chief Executive , comments: “Having the support of D&A has been a real boost for us and we are pleased to be able to join with D&A to thank their employees at this special event. There is no doubt that the funds D&A have raised will make a big difference to the people we help. ”
