Boots Opticians and Dollond & Aitchison announce support for Action for Blind People

Boots Opticians, the newly merged Boots Opticians and Dollond & Aitchison business, is delighted to announce that Action for Blind People is its new chosen charity partner. From 1st September 2009, all Boots Opticians and D&A branches across the UK will start their fundraising activities, aiming to raise a significant amount for the national charity’s ‘Actionnaires’ sports project.

Research shows that blind and partially sighted children and young people want to take part in sport as much as the general population, but are often excluded from doing so. To help tackle this problem, Action for Blind People runs 32 Actionnaires sports clubs across England and Wales, providing blind and partially sighted children and young people the opportunity to participate in sports in a safe, fun and structured environment. The money raised from this exciting new partnership will go towards developing further sporting opportunities for visually impaired children across the UK.

Stephen Remington, Chief Executive of Action for Blind People, comments: “Action for Blind People is very much looking forward to working with Boots Opticians. We need partners to help Action meet its vision, to raise vital funds and, just as importantly, increase awareness of Actionnaires. The funds will enable us to reach out to more blind and partially sighted children and young people across the UK and give them a sporting chance. We are very grateful to the colleagues in the Boots Opticians and D&A branches who will help us achieve this.”

Around 680 Boots Opticians and D&A branches will support the Actionnaires clubs through branch fundraising activity and volunteering over the next 18 months.

These are exciting times and with the fundraising activities we have planned for such a worthwhile cause, together we can make a real difference to the lives of so many blind and partially sighted children and young people.”
