About Us
Established in 1750, Dollond & Aitchison is the oldest retail optical chain on the High Street with a long-established reputation for providing excellent eyecare and eyewear. Having been owned by De Rigo, one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of premium eyewear, since 1998 Dollond & Aitchison was merged with Boots Opticians in May 2009. Both businesses had a strong heritage and an excellent reputation for service, customer care and quality products, which provided a great opportunity to combine these strengths and offer customers even better value for money.
The new company, registered as Boots Opticians, is jointly owned by De Rigo and Alliance Boots (previous owners of Boots Opticians), in total has around 690 branches across the UK, and directly employs more than 5,000 people. It continues to focus upon service and customer care, building upon the strong heritage and reputation of each of the successful, constituent businesses.
Dollond & Aitchison continues as a trading name of the Boots Opticians group of companies. It is envisaged that the Dollond & Aitchison branches will, in due course, adopt the Boots Opticians brand.
